The Ecovacs Deebot X5 Pro Omni offers near-flagship performance at $500 less than the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra. After 4 weeks of testing, here is our verdict.

Ecovacs Deebot X5 Pro Omni: Premium Performance at a Competitive Price

The Ecovacs Deebot X5 Pro Omni occupies an interesting position in the 2026 robot vacuum market. At $1,299, it is priced $500 below the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra but offers comparable specifications on paper. After four weeks of testing, we can confirm it delivers on most of its promises.

True Edge Cleaning: A Genuine Innovation

The X5 Pro Omni's most distinctive feature is its true edge cleaning capability. The omnidirectional sensor system allows the robot to align precisely with walls and clean right up to the edge — something that most robots, including the Roborock, struggle with.

In our edge cleaning tests, the X5 Pro Omni collected 28% more debris along walls than the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra. For homes where edge cleaning matters — particularly in kitchens and bathrooms — this is a meaningful advantage.

Suction and Cleaning Performance

The 12,800 Pa suction delivers excellent performance on both hard floors and carpet. In our debris tests, it achieved a 98.1% pickup rate on hard floors and 95.4% on medium-pile carpet — both excellent results.

The wind tunnel design and advanced motor technology make the suction particularly effective at lifting embedded debris from carpet. While it does not match the Dreame X60 Max Ultra on thick carpet, it outperforms the iRobot Roomba j9+ in our carpet tests.

Mopping: Hot Water and Consistent Pressure

The X5 Pro Omni's mopping system uses hot water washing and applies consistent mop pad pressure. In our stain removal tests, it achieved a 91% dried stain removal rate — slightly behind the Roborock (94%) but ahead of the Narwal Freo X Ultra (89%) on our specific test surface.

The auto water refill and drainage system works reliably, and the mop lifting on carpet transitions was successful in 47 of 50 tests (94%).

AIVI 3D Obstacle Avoidance

The AIVI 3D system uses dual-lens 3D structured light for obstacle detection. In our 73-object test, it correctly avoided 67 objects (91.8%) — good performance, though behind the top-2 robots.

App Experience: Improved but Not Perfect

The Ecovacs app has improved significantly in recent firmware updates. The core features work reliably, and the mapping system is accurate. However, we experienced two app crashes during our testing period, and the UI design is less polished than the Roborock app.

Verdict: Excellent Value

The Ecovacs Deebot X5 Pro Omni is an excellent robot vacuum that delivers near-flagship performance at a more accessible price. Its true edge cleaning capability is a genuine differentiator, and its mopping performance is competitive with robots that cost $500 more.

If the $500 savings vs. the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra matters to you, the X5 Pro Omni is a smart choice.

Score: 8.8/10
